AHS6: A Review

Yet another season of scare

AHS6: A Review

So, I'm writing this article having just watched the season 6 premiere of American Horror Story last night, September 14. By the time it gets published, the second episode will have already aired and hopefully a lot of my questions will have been answered. I'm gonna write this article anyway, so if you didn't watch the premiere and still haven't by the time you're reading this, walk away now.

Ok so first of all, this is the first premiere in the history of the show that the BAD ASS theme song does not play. I'm very upset about this. I live for the opening theme song every episode and I was more than a little bit upset to not hear it this time around.

Also, let's talk about the theme. The entire premiere episode is structured like one of those re-enactment type of crime shows you see on Investigation Discovery. Being someone who actually thoroughly enjoys shows like that in her spare time (specifically Homicide Hunter and Deadly Women) I wasn't totally opposed to the structure of the episode. However, people kept talking on social media and to me about how much the episode scared the pants off of them, and I wasn't one of those people. I personally felt like it wasn't nearly as scary as everyone (including the producers) claim it was. Now, maybe I just have to wait it out and it will get scarier, but as of right now I was not convinced.

So, to those who haven't seen it or don't really care to watch it, here's a brief synopsis: As I said, it's told like a re-enacted crime documentary, like you would find on Investigation Discovery. Lily Rabe (who I am SO happy is back, by the way) is the real person who experienced the horror, along with her husband's character played by a man that I'm not sure what his name is. Sarah Paulson (goddess, queen, chameleon extraordinaire) plays her re-enacted character alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. (Which I'm excited about because after his performance as OJ I'm intrigued how he will do in this genre). We're still waiting to hear from Evan Peters, Lady Gaga, and apparently Emma Roberts.

Speaking of that, let's talk about how Evan Peters wasn't in episode one. I freaking love Evan Peters. He and Sarah Paulson make AHS what it is- great television. The fact that he wasn't in episode one (which I think was also the case in Hotel but I'm not 100% sure I may have to rewatch) really makes me upset. He is such a dynamic character actor and the fact that we weren't graced with his presence episode one is depressing.

Aside from that, it was a solid episode. It left me wanting to know more, excited to see where the rest of the season will go, and still wondering and theor. I personally think this will be a great theme (if you haven't learned about Roanoke county, google it. A lot of the premiere makes more sense). It will be interesting to see how the rest of this season goes.

Keep holding on, AHS fans. Great stuff is coming, I can feel it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
