After months of bated breath and endless theory-talk about the newest focus for the sixth season of the famed FX show American Horror Story (AHS), fans everywhere gathered around their televisions at 10 p.m.on Wednesday, September 14th and waited with thinning patience for the trademark music of AHS to appear...only it didn't.
After a few minutes of utter panic and a racing mind as I tried to decipher the opening moments of the show, the reveal occurred. Season Six is American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare. The Roanoke theory swirled around within fan groups earlier in the year, but quickly dissolved out as fans--myself included--became widely convinced that the new AHS plot had something to do with children. The teaser previews for season six always seemed to have a child laughter in the background or something related to children.
For those of you who are unaware of what exactly Roanoke is, allow me to provide an explanation. Roanoke is a colony from the earliest days of the United States of America, located in North Carolina. Every living soul that inhabited the Roanoke colony vanished without a trace in 1590. This is the perfect setup for a very eerie and mysterious story line for AHS. The fact that these people vanished leaves the ending to the show completely open.
The premiere featured some AHS veterans and some new faces who had never been a part of the cast before this season. Some familiar faces included Lily Rabe, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson and Kathy Bates. Some AHS newcomers who made their debut in the premiere included Cuba Gooding Jr., Andre Holland, and Adina Porter. We know that more confirmed cast members include AHS favorites such as Evan Peters, Matt Bomer, Lady Gaga and more.
What exactly do we think will happen on this season of AHS? Thus far, we've seen human teeth hailing down onto Sarah Paulson, creepy ladies (maids?) wandering throughout the house only to disappear suddenly, Paulson getting nearly drowned by mysterious arms in her hot tub, and creepy wooden figures arranged into mobiles throughout the entire house, and don't forget the skinned pig who was found on the porch. Does this imply witchcraft? Are the lost inhabitants of Roanoke the angry undead? Could demonic possession be a possibility? All theories are welcome and accepted, we're going to need all the help we can get.
