Around a week ago, I posted an article called, “A Letter to My Grandparents Voting for Donald Trump.” After it had been shared on Facebook, a man whom I do not know commented this in response.
While I can “easily” delete the comment and move forward, because an opinion is an individual right; it is not entirely based on any knowledge or fact. This man’s usage of the word “naive” seemed to evoke a heavier realization that there is an overwhelmingly large population targeting the younger generation as guileless, impressionable, and unintelligent. This idea happened to bother me more than the fact that this man made it his objective to criticize someone he does not know by any means. On that note, here is my comment back.

Thank you for voicing your opinion, although my stances seem to lie quite elsewhere.
As a matter of fact, I believe my article is indicative of the truth that while I do fully understand that there are and will always be differences in everyone’s choices towards political party, there comes a time where political and religious views should not have the power in surpassing the importance of basic civility. It is unfortunate that I am given no credit for my opinions solely because of my age, when I do proudly advocate for my outlook on women’s rights, civil rights, and our world based on educated and informed sources; and I could arguably say that those sources you have listed have not hindered nor influenced my opinions, but rather it has been the specific, and frightful evidence that they have released, that assisted in shaping my opinions towards Donald Trump. The truthful and unbelievable evidence towards the horrific acts and slander that he has said and done; towards women, men, and children have shaped my opinions as well, and the point of my article works to highlight the fact that this election in its entirety is unjust because it has caused me to become so unconcerned with actual political views. I would undoubtedly chose to vote for Hillary Clinton in any case because I am able to separate her from the terrible bully of a candidate that is Trump. Although this is the case, the fact of the matter is that I would like to say that CNN has not taught me the value of respect and human-kindness.
This being said, agree-to-disagree with me. Your candidate has won, President-elect or not, he holds a position and a title, one which is heavier than many. That aside, I hope you can learn to grow and adjust to the fact that my generation is as divergent as any. While you can generalize that particular individuals are “naive”, or to more eloquently categorize: as, "unaware or uneducated" towards the significance of this election, or the world, a generalization in any form proves unhelpful and derogatory.
Associating my article with the description "naive child" is simply incorrect, as I am an eighteen-year-old college student; with an IQ (no offense) that greatly surpasses my ten-year-old child of a sister, and I have immense hope that as a dedicated and motivated individual, I can detach myself from the negative stigma my generation holds.
