What Have We Become In A Year?

In the wake of Dallas and injustice nationwide.

What Have We Become In A Year?

As I turned the TV on to watch "The Kelly File" on Fox where she got a big panel of people on both sides of the issue with BLM. I witnessed more things that was not solutions in the Wake of Dallas.

Let me give you guys a bit of my background, I am currently going to get my Paramedic as well as a volunteer firefighter/EMT. Seeing riots, officers injured as well as citizens, and property destroyed breaks my heart but also makes me very angry as to why this is happening. Have we lost all sense of civilized behavior? When did rioting, destroying property, looting, hurting officers became acceptable in 2016? It never was! It is 2016, we can do better. And what is sad was the whole show of "The Kelly File" passion ran high with ignorance and disrespect, and no one wanted to listen or call for a stop. These are grown adults ranging in age from their own shows on the radio to community leaders. It is 2016, where is the civilized mature behavior? Well, it is not with the media, leaders of these groups or our President who has made the country more divided, more unsafe for even the firefighters and EMT's. We are getting issued bullet proof vests.... come on. This is what it has become since I wear the same uniform as a police officer does. I am not the police. My friends almost died as EMT's in my area because of this. But this is why we need the police, why they need to be armed. They got called to a female down, found her with stab wounds and a circle of men. They had trouble getting patient care started. Police were not there yet. Then when they are working the circle is around them with a man with the knife in his hand. You tell me, want the police there? Sure as hell I do. I got assaulted by a patient that I needed them and they came.

They are here to protect us! There are bad cops! But they are not out to get you. You break the law you will be arrested. You do not comply you will be met with force. Simple just go along be nice and you'll be on your merry way. These officers don't want to take a life, but they also don't want to die. They have families too. How would you feel if you know when dad is at work he may never come back with what is going on? It is open season on them.

I understand the frustration of the BLM movement but it is racist because as an EMT/firemen you are all people, human. Your color is just a bubble on my paperwork, I am here to help you. That is what the cops are there for too. We want to help, but they also keep law and order.

I have heard the system is rigged. Really? Baltimore where I was at school when the riots happened, all the leaders, The mayor, the AG, the Judge were African-American. The past two Federal Ag's were African-American as well as our president. One panelist named Richard who is really full of it said that the Flint Michigan water incident was to kill African-Americans! Are you kidding me? That some first class conspiracy theory. Another one was from Chicago where her plan was to abolish the police, disarm them and let the community take over. Like Chicago is not already the movie Purge in real life.

What have we become in a year? We became angrier, more divided, more unwilling to listen and quick to judge. We have lost more progress now than ever. We have become ignorant where we can't be tolerant of other opinions. We can't agree to disagree or even have a talk and hear both sides without yelling. Cooler heads need to prevail. My plan to fix this is as follows:

1. BLM leaders need to condone violence with destruction of property

2. Officers should not be restrained when violence occurs.

3. The National Guard needs to be ready

4. Leaders should meet with their police chiefs and talk.

5. Communities need to stand up and not condone this behavior.

6. Politicians need to talk less, do more and get involved with the communities.

7. Better trained officers

These are my plans that should help. On the quick subject of police training, I have gone through the application process and there is psychological testing. It's required.

Don't be afraid to speak up but be mature and listen. This is allI ask.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
