The after Christmas blues are real for people who celebrate it. If you're someone who loves the Christmas season like I do, then you'll connect with each of these sad things that happen once Christmas is over.
1. Taking down the lights
Sure, putting lights on Christmas trees is rough, and untangling them is even worse, but the worst thing of all is taking them off. At least when you're untangling them you know you're about to decorate a beautiful tree and it's going to light up your life for a couple weeks. Taking them off is just depressing. This goes for other lights, too. The lights on your house, in your room, everywhere. It's just way too depressing for me.
2. Knowing you won't see your family for a while
Personally, my family doesn't get together that often. We meet a couple times a year, and one of those times is Christmas. After Christmas, I probably won't see my family until May, if I have a graduation party. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't see them until the summer.
3. Cleaning up
POST CHRISTMAS CLEAN UP IS THE WORST! If you host a Christmas dinner you have dishes. If you don't, you still have to clean up all the decorations and wrapping paper and the tree and aaahhhh!
4. When they stop playing Christmas music
Turning on the radio and hearing mainstream music clogging my ear drums is the worst. The. Worst. Christmas music is beautiful and we've gotten used to it. Now we're back to the same songs being played every hour.
5. Undecorated trees laying on the side of the road
This is the saddest part. When you're driving home form the grocery store or work on the 26th and you see sad Christmas trees waiting to be destroyed... I just can't stand it. My tree stays up until after New Year's #NoShame.
6. Knowing you won't get any presents until your birthday
I know, this is super terrible, but it's real. And even realer if your birthday is after August, it just feels like millions of years away.
7. Putting away your Christmas sweaters
Or any Christmas clothing. The Santa hats, reindeer ears... everything. Put away for another 360 days, or so.
8. No more Christmas cheer
More like here go dat x-mas cheer. It's just gone. For the next year. Gone.
9. No reason to give people things
Definitely doesn't mean you should stop, but people tend to look at you weird. "Why are you giving me this?" "What's the occasion?" "What do you mean it's Arbor day? I don't need a present for that."
10. You can still bake, but most people are back on their diets
Fuck diets. I just want to make everyone fat and happy, is that too much to ask for?
11. The magic is gone
For another year, that special magic is gone. The countdown to Christmas, the songs, the cheer... all gone. For another 12 months.
Even with Christmas over and done with, don't be sad. Look forward to the next holiday... New Year's!! Gather with your friends and family to celebrate a whole new year. Remember, new year, new you! :)
