After The Election

I will not accept the results, and simply move on.

I know what you are all thinking; another Trump article. Can't you just accept the results and move on? To those people, I am sorry that there are so many "annoying" articles on your feed, but no. I cannot just accept the results and move on.

After the election, many people, including myself, were very upset (over half, in fact). I am still trying to process the fact that Donald Trump, a symbol of hatred, is going to be our next President of the United States. I remember when Donald first announced that he was running for office, and everyone thought it was a joke. Now he has won the election, and it feels more like a nightmare. This man who has single-highhandedly offended women, minorities, mentally disabled people and the LGBT community, is now the face of our nation, so excuse me, but I cannot accept that.

Now let me explain why this is upsetting. Although I personally cannot stand the man himself, it isn't necessarily about him. It is about all the people who gave him a vote, validating that the words he was saying were okay. I know there are many precautions in place to keep him from having too much power, but his name alone gives already hateful people the go ahead to be vocal with their discrimination. I have already heard of so many sickening acts of racism since the election results; children of color told they should sit in the back of the bus, people of Mexican descent being told they are going to be deported, and young children chanting the words "build the wall". Although Trump may not necessarily condone this behavior, the words he said during his campaign have told people that it is okay to treat people who are different than you as less than. This is not someone I want to be the face of our nation.

Furthermore, as a LGBT+ ally I am heartbroken at the thought that many of my friends may have their right to marry the person they love taken away all over again. I am scared for my friends of color. I am afraid that they will be physically harmed in the name of Trump. I am disappointed for myself as a woman. Donald Trump's win felt personal.

On top of this, Donald Trump cares more about money than the environment. I think it is great that he wants to help the economy, but what about the Earth, Donald? Are you going to buy back the oil-filled water, the infertile soil and the destroyed ozone layer? News Flash: You can't. Hand-in-hand with that, the man has no humanity. He wishes to continue with the North Dakota Access Pipeline project, which could potentially destroy the Standing Rock Sioux's source of water and destroy their sacred burial grounds. It's time to stop this feeling of Manifest Destiny. It has been going on in the US since day one. We cannot continue to take whatever we want when we want it, but that is who Donald is; a taker. He will do whatever he wants, without concern for others.

It is for these reasons that I cannot simply "accept the results and move on." I have been told since a very young age to stand up for what I believe in. I will not be silenced. I will not say that it is okay, because it is not okay.

I will let my voice be heard though. Donald is not my President.

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.

Fandango

There are a lot of foods in this world, but there is only one dish that stands above the rest: Pizza. If you're close to me or at least know who I am, then you know that I'm totally obsessed with pizza. It's one of my favorite things to eat and I will NEVER turn down a slice, even if it doesn't have my favorite toppings. There isn't a day that goes by where I'm not thinking about pizza. I even sleep with a pizza pillow every night! There are many reasons why pizza stands above all other foods, and here are just a couple reasons why.
