Our favorite time of the year is almost here: SPRING BREAK. It's our last chance to enjoy life before finals...but it can be expensive. Here are some affordable Spring Break ideas for you and your squad.
1. Tijuana, Mexico
Fellow San Diegans will understand this one. Since we're so close to the border, why not grab a group, hop in an Uber, and head over to where the drinking age is legal and guacamole is super cheap? Make a day trip out of it and take advantage of being so close to Mexico.
2. Rent a Beach House in Mission Beach, San Diego
I've done this one with a group of friends and it was a great time. Just get together a solid group, do some research on beach house rentals online, and set a reasonable budget. Chances are you won't have to spend more than $200, and that's pretty damn good for a whole week. Plus, what better place to spend Spring Break than on the beach every day?
3. Spring Break Packages on Justcollege.com
You can find packages that include airfare, room and board, food and drinks for under $1,000 for the entire week on this website. Whether it's Cabo or Vegas, the packages are designed specifically for college students and you can even pay in installments. If you're looking to do something absolutely unforgettable, definitely consider this idea.
4. Lake Havasu, Arizona
Not quite down to travel out of the country for Spring Break? Take a look at some of the Lake Havasu packages here. Like JustCollege.com, this website is designed specifically for students as well. It's an affordable spring break getaway that gets you far enough away from home, but not too far.
5. Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica
At first thought, you might think you have to steer clear of international vacations in order to have an affordable spring break trip. However, Puerto Viejo roundtrip tickets can be found for under $400 with proper planning. If you look hard enough, there are a variety of cheap places to stay in this beautiful place.
6. Daytona Beach, Florida
During Spring Break, tons of college students flock to Daytona. There are a variety of cheap hotels and tons of parties happening along the beach. You'll be able to have a great time without breaking your budget. Find cheap hotels for under $100 here.
7. Why not just stay in San Diego?
It's no surprise that San Diego has a bunch of things to do all the time. Obviously we all want to get away for Spring Break, but chances are you could have just as great of a time staying here in San Diego. Crash at your a friend's apartment or stay at your place and hit up the beach, the zoo, Balboa Park, and the Gaslamp for nightlife. And this way, you won't even have to pack a bag.
8. Visit a Friend Who Doesn't Have Your Spring Break
We all know that we don't have the same Spring Break as all of our best friends that go to different colleges than we do. This doesn't have to suck though. Take advantage of this opportunity and go visit them while they aren't on Spring Break, and get a chance to experience their party life and their school's lifestyle. Crash at their apartment or dorm and mooch off their meal plan and you are guaranteed to stay within your budget.
9. Venice Beach, California
If you're not afraid of staying in some cheap, (sometimes sketchy) motel rooms, take a look at the Santa Monica or Venice Beach area. It's going to take some research, but it is definitely possible to find some cheap places to stay so you can explore Los Angeles with your friends.
10. Big Bear, California
If you are more into the outdoors instead of partying and nightlife, why not take a look at going camping in Big Bear Lake? There is no shortage of water sports, beautiful hikes and other outdoorsy activities in these communities. Experience a change of pace with snow in the spring.
Spring Break is our last chance at fun before we have to take finals, so we might as well put some thought into it. As James Franco said in Spring Breakers, "SPRANG BREAK FOEVAAA."
