On School Work

Keep up with school and itwill put up with you. Neglect it and it will abandon you; it is that simple. It’s all about learning because GPAs, quizzes, and exams can never quantify how much your brain flushes or uses. School does not define you, dear one. Remember that this is a small portion of your life.

On Drastic Changes

Before you make drastic life decisions especially those that require a shift in perspective or lifestyle, create a supportive network. When you are convicted in your heart to make a drastic change, call your cheerleaders and ask them to lift you up on the pyramid. You can never go wrong with a supportive network. Make sure you are making the right drastic shift so that when you look back with tears of joy or misery, you can at least say, “I thought about it.”

On Love

Root out the person who makes you feel partially loved. Love cannot be given in crumbs nor does it have to feel like stolen sugar. Let love be a well-deserved slice of cake. But before love, etc., love yourself because no one can do it for you. We make the mistake of loving others because they embellish our flaws and make eulogies of our insecurities, but can we do that for ourselves? So dear one, do that one simple task. Love yourself, your flaws, and insecurities first before you can love, etc.

On Friendships

Embrace friendships. Embrace friends who are different or similar or a tad better than you, but remember, friends who will stick are those who share your values. Find them because they will cheer you up when you’re down and call you out when you’re wrong. They will keep you sane during the fall while the trees are still colorful and will keep you warm as winter approaches because they know you in every season and are with you through it all.

On Success

Ah, yes. You had heeded the echoes of others for so long that you shut down your inner voice of reason. The echoes of others are their ideas of success, let them be. Why did you compete with them for their success? How meaningless. Take a moment to be silent and listen to yourself. Be selfish and understand what makes your heart pound. What is your idea of success? Scribble the word of the inner voice on paper, on a screen,...somewhere. If it changes, let it change.

On Passions

Oh a million things on your to-do list? How unfortunate. My dear, need I remind you to do the things you love. Unless you love a million things, I suggest you curb the enthusiasm and live life selfishly. Do yourself and all the organizations you are involved in a favor and leave if your heart is not in it. Love, if your heart is in it.

On Things Falling Apart

You are making the mistake of giving up and this is making me angry. We always have control over one thing or another. For the things we cannot control, let us prepare well and leave it to chance. As for the things we can control, let us do them right and fix what we need to. Things can never fully fall apart. We let them.

Before the fall is always a radiant summer, and we never think it will end but beware. The warmth will disappear and if you are not prepared, you will be whooshed by the wind. Be prepared.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.
