We are several weeks into the semester and the dreaded is finally here- the first set of college exams. Everyone has to go through it, and it does get better. They may be stressful now but if you follow these helpful tips, you will get through every exam with no problem; well at least with less stress!

1. Stay up to date on your readings.

As time goes on we all tend to just let the readings pass. I mean the teacher goes over the same information so why bother, right? Wrong. Your teacher assigns these readings for a reason, to help you. It is much easier to go through class when you already have a vague sense of what is going on. This will allow you to have background knowledge before the lesson is taught which will help you understand better conceptually, you'll even be able to ask better questions!

2. Take thorough notes.

Don't just bring your Macbook to class so that you can text your friends and online shop, actually take notes! Also, don't just write down everything that is on the powerpoint. Learn how to add in your own notes based on what the teacher says. If you could learn just from a powerpoint, classes would not exist. Your teacher isn't standing up there for the fun of it, listen to what they say and write it down!

3. Make a friend in the class.

You don't have to hang out all the time but it is nice to know someone in the course to share notes with and ask questions to if you do not understand. Sometimes asking a peer seems less intimidating than asking your teacher.

4. Utilize office hours.

Teachers don't just write office hours because they're required to; they genuinely want to help you. Before your exam go see them and ask them anything you may not be sure of. Even if you think it is a stupid question, or won't be on the exam go ask them anyways. You never know what may happen, and knowing something well early on may help you to understand something else later in the semester.

5. Actually study!

Whether you're taking financial accounting or biology for non-majors you still need to study. If you know the exam is going to be easy, well then this is just good practice for when your courses get harder because they will get harder. If you never had to study in high school, learning techniques may be challenging. Do not be afraid to go see a tutor, if nothing else they'll help you find the best method of studying for you.

6. Find a quiet study spot.

Do not be afraid of the library! You need to be able to find a spot that is comfortable for you to where you can focus and not get distracted. Stay out of your room, out of your bed, maybe even out of your house. Finding that one spot can really help you succeed.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
