What I Wish I Knew In High School

What I Learned from My High School Years.

What I Wish I Knew In High School

As I have one semester left of high school, I decided to give advice from the experiences I have gone through these past four years. It's scary to think that I soon will be college student.

High School isn't as scary as movies make it seem.

High school movies make it seem like students are bullied everyday. There's a popular girl dating the popular boy. High school isn't very scary as long as you do your own thing and mind your own business. Don't think every high school movie is realistic because it isn't.

Make new friends

I never really was the one to pursue new friendships. To be honest, I've always felt like a loner. Before being a tutor and spending all my time in the lit lab, I'd sit alone during lunch and that depressed me. I did sat with friends for a while, but then that friendship ended, and, once again, I was alone. If I hadn't had so much anxiety, I could've searched for new friendships.

Be Involved

Being involved is so important whether that's club or sports. It will help when filling out college applications and resumes. Besides that, you meet new people and it's a lot of fun. I wish I would've been more involved or I would've finished that activities that I didn't finish. Freshman year, I tried swimming, thinking it'd be easy because my middle school gym teacher was the coach told me I didn't need experience. It was a lie. I tried it out, but since I wasn't a good swimmer, I quit. Sophomore year, my brother suggested to do debate as it would look good on a resume. I didn't finish because I hated public speaking. Plus, I found it boring. Find something you enjoy and do it.

Try your hardest in classes

My parents always told me to do well in high school, so I could go to college and get scholarships. My grades weren't terrible, but I sure could've tried harder. I wish I tried harder and listened to my parents. Be grateful to have the opportunity to have an education.

Be careful who your trust

Not everyone is who they seem to be. I've learned this the hard way. Nothing last forever. Nothing stays the same.

Have Fun

High school only happens once-in-a-lifetime, and it goes by pretty quickly, so make sure to enjoy every moment. Attend dances, sports, and have fun!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
