The Best Advice I've Ever Been Given...
@kelseykimber

I'm a talker, I always have been. No matter my mood, talking out my feelings with the people around me has always been something I'm prone to (S/O to all the poor souls who have listened to me and put up with this over the years). Perhaps this was a bother to the people that I was close to, but I will never regret having these conversations, because I've been given some of the best advice and guidance from those around me during the good times and the bad. While I was reflecting on this, I thought to myself, I wonder what the best advice is out there in the world? I've given and received my fair share of advice but there is always more to learn. So I asked friends and family on Facebook, to share their best advice with me. It could be about love, life, work, school, honestly anything they could come up with, and the results made my heart sing. So here is a collection, of the best advice out there. Some of it is serious, some of it is silly, and all of it is important to remember.

On Love...

"Marry your best friend because sex fades." - Laila Samaha (credit to her Nana)

"Don't let the fear of being alone keep you in a relationship where you are alone." - Ilene Jonas

"You have to be happy together and happy when you're apart." - Jenna Strop

"You may not always like them, but you'll always love them." - Bailey Jonas (credit to her Grandma Lou)

On Life...

"When the going gets tough, the tough get going."- Jordan Reed

"If the grass is greener on the other side, there's probably more manure there." - Sahil Verma

"CARPE DIEM." - Alexandria Goedhart

"Be kind to others and they will treat you in kind too." - Penny Wilson

"Never park in front of a bar." - Ally Klekas

"It will be what it is." - Sierra Ludwig

"Don't eat the whole elephant at once." - Brynn Minor

"It's better to look good than to feel good." - Erin Hicks (credit to her Grammy)

"Blink and Breathe." - Amy Nisbet

"Suck less more often." - Christopher Carroll

"The faster you run, the faster you're done!" - Olivia Rice

On Growth...

"Try not to take anything personally. No one thinks about you as much as you do." - Ashley Borg

"The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, sleep sufficiently, work industriously, worship faithfully-- and lie about your age." - Cindy Hansford

"You are always one decision away from a totally different life." - Candace Phillips

"What you permit, you promote!" -Katie Johnson (credit to her HR director)

"To live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there." - Chantel Sowell

"One of the most important marks of maturity is the understanding that your comment isn't necessary." - Becca Zohar

"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." - Jessica Musser

"You have to be odd to be number one." - Grace Blair

"You did not wake up today to be mediocre." - Cambria Steffler

"You cannot control what happens to you in this world, but you can control how you react to these things." - Hannah Wright

"I hold myself to a standard of grace, not perfection." -Emily Rhoads

"Be true to yourself- Don't try to be what someone else wants you to be!" - Peggy Thompson

"Treat yo self." - Mariela Rosales-Kamman

"Don't look back, you're not going that way." - Shauna Baumann

"When you're pointing a finger to blame someone else, don't forget about the three pointing back at yourself." - Abby Latta

"Be kind." - Cyndy Oxley (credit given to Margaret Kimber-- this advice was shown through actions, not words).

I was blown away by these words of wisdom. They made me laugh, made me think, and made me appreciate all of the wonderful people in the world and the knowledge that they have to share. Ultimately, this helped me remember to never take these words for granted, they are the ones that will always serve as a guide when I'm feeling lost.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
