I've truly been through it all. I had the roughest freshman and sophomore years academics-wise, and grew from that and got Dean's list this past semester. So I have a few pieces of advice for incoming freshman.
- If you qualify for accommodations for the student disability resources center, USE THEM. I have ADHD, anxiety and depression that my therapist wrote out accommodations for and I never used them until I was a second semester junior. They are so helpful and I wish I had used them from the beginning.
- If you fail, don't give up and don't lose faith in yourself. Sometimes you need to fail in order to succeed. Not everyone has the same path in college; not everyone gets it done in 4 years. I'm going to have to be a 5th year and that's nothing to be ashamed of!
- Try to join at least one club! It will help you make new friends if you're struggling to make friends. It's also just nice to be a part of something!
- If you are going to rush Greek life, do not lose yourself in the process of trying to be accepted by them. Be unapologetically yourself, if they don't want you as you are it's their loss. Why would you want to be a part of something that doesn't accept the truest version of yourself?
- Hang out with the people on your floor if your floor is receptive to that. That bond will last for the rest of college and you can form some of your best friends that way.
These are just a few things that you can do to help make your first year of college a little easier. Enjoy it, because freshman year is one of a kind.
