Brother,
In my mind, you will always be my baby brother. I cannot believe that you are approaching your 17th birthday. As you finish up high school and start the process of applying for colleges, here is some of the best advice I can give you.
Live in the moment.
I remember wanting high school to end when I was a junior. I wanted nothing more than to be able to start making decisions by myself, for myself and to have freedom to grow as an individual. Looking back, I should have lived more in the moment and enjoyed what was happening around me in that part of my life. High school is a great time in your life to work hard, make genuine friendships, and to be yourself. And, also, I wish I hung out with mom and dad more. They are getting older and you need to cherish every moment you can have with them.
Hard work is the key to success.
It's very hard to stay motivated during your senior year of high school and, likewise, your first year of college. But, trust me, these are pivotal times in your life. 'Senioritis' is a real thing but make sure to end on the best note possible. Freshman year of college is full of changes but make sure good study habits, persistence, and dedication remain steady. You'll never regret studying a little more for a test or asking for help from a friend or teacher.
It's okay to be unsure of what you want to do when you grow up.
I'm finishing up my junior year of college, and I still couldn't tell you exactly what my plan is after I graduate. Things will naturally fall into place as time goes on. As long as you are passionate and follow your dreams, everything will work out.
You are smart in ways that differ from me. Mom used to always joke that she had "Venus and Mars." I was the book smart, overachiever but you possess qualities like wit and cleverness, those of which I envy. You are bound to do great things kid. Don't forget Mom, Dad, and I know you will be successful!
Love ya,
Taylor
