Do what makes you happy.

I love what I do and I’m not going to let unhappy people bring me down. I look forward to class and preparing each day for my future career because I know that I’m doing what I’m meant to do. I’m enjoying my college career and I truly hope that you are, too. So let’s be happy for each other, people! I mean good for you if it’s your dream to be a rocket scientist, but don’t take it out on me when you’re pulling all-nighters three times a week. It was your choice, my friend.

Don’t be ashamed.

Don’t hide what you are passionate about because you don’t think it’s special enough. There has to be someone for every job, right? So while I’m over here doing my thing, you negative Nancy’s can get back to your own business. I’m gonna keep working towards my goals and I’m going to let you all know that I’m proud of myself. So next time someone asks what your major is, you better look them in the eyes and give them the most confident answer. Judgment is just fuel to work even harder.

They’re most likely just jealous.

Odds are your major isn’t actually “easy.” But being considerate is difficult for some people these days. I’ll admit, I have a nice balance in my life. I still stress about school like a crazy person, but I make time for the things I love because I choose to live a happy life. Just because I don’t throw a pity party every time I have a research paper due doesn't mean my life is a breeze. I work hard and I play hard and you should, too. Life’s too short not to. Am I right?

You’re not dumb.

Don’t give up on your dreams because of what others think of you. Stick to your gut, love what you do, and success will follow. Whether it’s financial success, academic success, or personal success, make sure that you are still smiling at the end of the day. There is no mind quite like yours and I want to see what you can do to make an impact on the rest of us. For all of you studying to be something extraordinary, I applaud you. But I am completely content with being extra… ordinary.

Be proud of yourself.

You’re in college so you’re automatically a stud. Google just told me that 6.7% of the world’s population has their college degree. That means you’re already way ahead of the game. Truthfully, we’re all just trying to get by. So let’s stop pointing fingers at the “easy” majors and start lifting each other up. Go out there and do your thing.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
