It's comical when you think about it. We, as viewers, often become inadvertently annoyed and we pay no attention to the commercials that come up in the middle of our television programs, music playlists, or prior to online videos. We see them as an inconvenience and an interruption in the anticipation of what we really want to see or hear next in our desired piece of entertainment. However, it's interesting that on this one night a year, we actually become excited to watch advertisements. Some of us are even more excited for those commercials instead of the largest viewed program in the U.S.
Copious amounts of money are poured into this money making business. An advertisement slot during this year's Super Bowl cost companies around five million dollars. That's certainly an extraordinary amount of money but it demonstrates just how valuable advertisements are in this particular case. Any major company or monopoly utilizes this annual event because they anticipate viewership to be large, and they're not wrong. This year's Super Bowl was watched by about 104 million people, so anyone with an ounce of common sense would know that the advertising of products and brands is probably going to be decently successful.
The phenomenon of Super Bowl advertisements has become apart of American culture, and it's honestly pretty exciting. Though it is a major money making tactic and that's probably why this event was produced in America, it's still so fun to gather around the TV or computer with friends and family and take in the entertainment because that also is a major factor.
Since these advertisements are so highly paid for, they need to be of the upmost quality right? So often, company advertisers will either go in the route of making a commercial hilarious or they'll try to be deep and heartfelt. This is done on purpose because either way, these advertisements become much more memorable than the typical commercials we see throughout the rest of the year and in everything that we do.
If you've never cared to tune into the Super Bowl because you're not into sports or you hate football and the NFL, I ask you to least give it a try next year. With the amount of blown whistles and timeouts that there are in this sport, there's honestly almost an equal ratio of the game to the commercials. So in 2019, be sure to sit back and relish in what all the hype is about.
