Advertising is misleading and deceptive when it comes to promoting subscription boxes like Hello Fresh and Fab Fit Fun. The ads on TV and on social media give you a code and even sometimes a free trial week where they send you the products. However, they don't tell you in the ads that you are subscribed for the next month.
I haven't tried Fab Fit Fun yet, but I did do my free week with hello fresh and what they do for their strategy is they do have you subscribed, but they give you a calendar to pick which weeks you want your box to come on. So you can skip weeks if you choose to, which is really nice as a college student to be able to try it out and then wait until I can do it the next time. I think that other companies should follow this way of subscription service in the future because it wouldn't be so misleading if that were the case.
Advertising with the latest technology brings up bigger issues because audiences sometimes feel as if they are entitled to the latest and greatest. More of the younger generation has more of a pressure to feel entitled because they think that they have to prove to their peers that they have the latest iPhone with all the new features from ads on the internet, TV, and radio.
So in a way, part of our generation is more materialistic than it has ever been, which back in the day that really was not the case at all because advertisements did not include the technology that we have today. So there was a time where advertising was evolving with the times, but the approach to it was quite different than it is today.
Overall, advertising is something that is always going to evolve and be present in our lives. It's up to us to see the change and be there to support all the changes, even if it's going to be negative sometimes. Life is not going to be all butterflies and rainbows when it comes to this and beyond.
