With each new iPhone, there have come advancements in the technology of cell phones in general. They have been on the forefront of these advancements and become the must have brand for people all over the country and all over the world in general. One aspect of the pocket-size devices that makes them so desirable is their camera feature, which is a part of the phone that tends to be updated with each new version.
The Apple website now totes many advanced features on the recent iPhone 7. These include optical image stabilization which has the ability to counteract small movements of your hands while you are taking picture so they don’t come out blurry. This allows for longer exposure times for higher quality photographs. This is something that even many standard DSLRs don’t offer their users. The phone also offers a larger aperture of f/1.8, meaning that the camera can sense more light and therefore are higher quality pictures in low light. The phone will also have a brighter flash with the ability to change according to the environment. Additionally it offers 4K video and a 7MP front-facing camera.
These advancements in the technology of cameras has, to no surprise, caused a decrease in sales of compact cameras. This is simply due the convenience off having your camera and phone combined into one compact device that you can take with you everywhere. Originally there was no competition between phones and regular cameras because there was no way to get the same quality in the phones as you could in larger devices. However, with every new version, that has dramatically changed.
According to The New Yorker, “Apple’s new iOS 10 (which powers the iPhone 7) is capable of automatic photo organization, image recognition, video creation, and other such functions.” Automatic photo organization is game-changer simply due to convenience. There is no longer a need to take the time to upload photos onto a compute or other hard drive. By combining the phone and camera into one, users can simply upload straight to the internet or share photos with friends with the same device that took the photos.
We have come a long way from the first iPhone, which was dismissed by large companies as a passing trend with an inferior camera. Apple surely proved them wrong.
