The newest trend: "#adulting," announcing to our followers and friends that we have completed a task that the generation before us learned how to do in school or at home and the task that may not be done by the generation behind us. This trend has gotten out of hand and is well, quite ridiculous. Everyone grows up and eventually learns how to do a variety of tasks, but many of us young adults are coming to realize that we don't actually know as much as we thought we did. Many of us find ourselves eating out more because we don't know how to properly cook food or how to interact with people so picking up our cell phone while another friend is talking to people we don't know becomes first instinct. We aren't engaging as much as people once did and we certainly aren't understanding that "#adulting" really shouldn't be in our lives. Here are 13 reasons why "#adulting" shouldn't exist:
1. Cooking is easy.
There are multiple sites such as foodnetwork.com and cookingchanneltv.com that give us both a list of ingredients and also directions on how to prepare the food.
2. Honestly, growing up is always going to be part of a human's life.
Well at least until someone comes up with an actual anti-aging serum that doesn't let us age (but we would also still be a bunch of little babies incapable of doing anything if we didn't age).
3. Making an appointment is easy.
Most of the time we don't even have to call to make an appointment anymore, you can usually just make one online. So save the "#adulting" tweet for never because it's not that hard to make an appointment.
4. Paying for things has also been a part (and will always be) part of life.
Suck it up kiddos, money doesn't grow on trees and everything else in life doesn't either.
5. Paying taxes isn't too difficult either:
Either do it yourself by using TurboTax (which has very easy and explainable steps) or find yourself a tax preparer (they're literally everywhere around tax season).
6. Hygiene has always been kind of forced among society:
So tweeting about showering and being an adult for doing so? Hmm, well I guess it's nice that you've finally stepped up your game on that subject.
7. Grocery shopping really isn't different anymore either:
You just don't have your parent(s) by your side and that's okay-- be happy for being independent.
8. All of us wanted to grow up, so why is there a hashtag for it now that we have?
Simple as that.
9. This hashtag provides even more evidence that many young adults are wrapped up social media.
10. No one cares that you made yourself dinner or paid rent.
We finally aren't relying on our parents for stuff and we feel the need to tell the world, but honestly many people don't care.
11. Literally directions on how to do something, like sew, are on the Internet. Pick up Google and search for what you're looking for (or ask grandma).
It really isn't too difficult.
12. "#adulting" is just another form of how to complain/ gain attention.
So stop please.
13. Broadcasting our lives and tying it to a hashtag is ridiculous.
Again, no one really cares if you made dinner or paid for something; you worked for what you wanted and you got it, good for you-- here is a virtual high five, now do me a favor and please don't use that hashtag.
