"Being an adult doesn't come with directions"
-Samantha Poules
Very recently, I turned 20 years old. And of course, like every birthday I felt no different. Not older, not younger...just the same as usual. Ever so slowly, as the days passed, and all my other friends turned 20 as well, I started to feel old. I began to think: How does one actually become an adult? Is 20 years old considered adulthood? Or do I still have a couple of years? Or have I already been an adult all this time? Who knows????
Internships: All of us have younger and older friends, especially that go to school with us and work with us. It's very hard not to compare your timeline to theirs. Are you on the same track? Are you ahead of them and have things planned— who knows? All of my friends have internships already or lined up. It is quite intimidating sometimes, but there is one thing to remember. It's okay to not know what you're doing, and everyone is on a different path, so just breathe before you spastically plan out every single detail of your life in your color-coded planner.
Big Steps: Car. I just bought a car and that was intense, to say the least. I never realized how intense the process was, but saving up was worth it. It felt reallygood to write a check and drive off from the DMV to adulthood. The road is tricky and bumpy, but it feels amazing to be driving with my car down that unknown path. Lesson: Work hard and you'll achieve your goals.
Apartment Life: Moving into an apartment is like a really big deal right? I mean, I thought it was. You have to buy cleaning products, cookware, food, furniture, and things you didn't even realize you needed until you leave your parents home. IKEA is a great stop for all these needs and not too expensive. And Target, of course. Sometimes moving into an apartment happens during or after college, but it sure as heck means growing up.

Responsibilities: They are tiring. And there are so many, like making your own doctors and dentist appointments. Knowing what forms and papers you need for said appointments. Cooking your own meals...that will be interesting. Pinterest, here I come!!!
Basically, adulthood is a journey. You learn to lean on people that love you and you know will help. Some friends you figure out just are making an appearance to teach you a lesson, and some stay in your lives for years and years (and watch a show that was on for seven years and discuss it every single week). So find those people, and never let them go.
