Why Is Adulting so Hard?

Adulthood is like looking both ways before crossing the street then getting hit by an airplane.

When we turn 18 we can officially say we are adults, even though our age still says "teen". We gain the right to vote, move out on our own, determine our career, join the armed forces, go to college and lots of other things. In high school we are contently being prepared for standardized tests. While all of this is going on, something must have slipped through the cracks of the school boards and that thing is that this world is continuously evolving. Instead of teaching our children how to survive we're going to make sure they can take a multiple choice test. While I'm not saying we shouldn't take multiple choice tests, because lets be honest they're way better then short answer exams, we should also learn about life. Why, you might ask? I'll tell you why, adulting is HARD.

This makes me wonder why things like basic "life hacks" aren't taught in school before you're thrown out into the world. Honestly I think it's because no one really knows how to adult and handle life all that great. I could be wrong, and there could be people out there rocking it out. If you're reading this hit me up because I'd love some help. Please.

I also blame the movies. They all made it seem so fun and stress free, and the only thing you had to worry about was getting the lead newspaper editor role and then you'd meet the guy, have the kids, and live out all the fantastic dreams you had as a child. I missed the application for that one so someone let me know if there are any openings. Even though I know my expectations were a tad bit high due to some of my favorite movies, I still had no idea what was going on.

Under the law I am considered an adult. I go to class, I pay bills, I buy my groceries, and I attempt to have a social life. I've gained new privileges and freedom, and with that comes new responsibilities. You will have to make your own choices about everything and that can be overwhelming.

My advice to you on this is don't let those choices stress you out and worry you so much that you forget to enjoy this step in your journey. It could be easier, sure. But it could also be a lot worse. As much as it might suck right now, as time goes on we learn how to handle things. We grow intelligently, and gain knowledge that can help us. Even if it's to help us fake it till we make it look like we have it under control. Fake it until you make it. Just keep swimming my friend and one day you might not have life all the way down, but being an adult is doable and you got this.

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
