We all remember when we were younger and received our first coloring book. Some kids would be coloring for hours and other kids would be coloring outside the lines. What was so special about coloring that teachers and parents gave out coloring books?
In the last year, coloring books have made a big comeback. Although, these coloring books are not exactly for children. Adult coloring books are advanced pictures with many designs throughout the page. It can take almost three hours to complete some of these coloring pages.
These coloring books are being sold everywhere and they are going fast. Some stores are even running out of colored pencils.
So what is the big craze on these coloring books? People have claimed that sitting down to color reminds them of simpler times and relaxes their mind. Adults today are always on the go. Sitting down to color gives them time to stop thinking about the simplicity of the next thing they have to do. The only decision they need to make when coloring is which colored pencil to choose next.
Scientist have reported that coloring is therapeutic and takes away the stress that people go through on a day to day basis. It is a form of relaxation for those with anxiety and helps create focus.
This sort of "art therapy" is know to help feelings, resolve emotional struggles, promote self awareness, and manage certain behaviors and addictions.
I heard about this craze of adult coloring books and never thought I would have time to get into it. I was out shopping one day and then thought I needed to give it a try. When I sat down to color that night, I was coloring for almost three hours on just one picture. It wasn’t a race to color the fastest where my hand would cramp up. It was just a peaceful easy going coloring and shading of each different design in the picture.
Artist are now publishing work that they never planned on letting out to the public. They know that everyone who has picked up a coloring book is interested in coloring new designs.
There are more benefits to the new coloring books than just the science side. It's fun. Some people have sat around in a group, turned on some light music, shared a bottle of wine, and started coloring and chatting while doing so. It is also helpful when trying to ease your mind before going to bed. You can sit there and color to relax your worries.
Coloring also limits the time that you are spending gazing into a screen. Instead of playing candy crush or your new favorite game before bed, take out the colored pencils and try to start a new page.
If you can't get away from using your phone, there are even coloring apps. This way you can color on the go. The most popular coloring app is called Colorfy.
Coloring is a way to lose track of time. (I learned this the hard way.) Therefore it’s smart to just set aside time that you can waste and color then to relax your mind.
