College students are constantly on the move, whether it’s studying for tests, attending events, or going to work. After a long week of following our daily schedule, we are ready to relax, only to remember, we have to go through the same thing every week until we graduate.
I do believe that colleges and educators try to ease students' stress in many different ways. Whether it’s access to a gym, fitness classes, convenient snacks for breaks, or stress relief puppies during finals week, there are options. However, there was one thing I noticed during finals week. I was walking out of the lobby in my residence building when a bunch of papers and colored pencils caught my eye. As I walked closer, I saw coloring pages. And it reminded me of how much I love to color.
Adult coloring books have made quite the appearance over the years. There are crazy, intricate patterns with flowers and animals, or my favorite, the ones with *funny* quotes. Regardless, the focus required to color takes your mind off all the stresses you may have, even if it’s temporarily.
They are a positive outlet to release stress and are actually therapeutic. After finishing a page in your coloring book, you feel so much better than if you were to take a nap or watch TV. Coloring as an adult is a joy within itself. Next time you have a lot on your plate or maybe just want something to do, consider grabbing a coloring book, some pencils, maybe a few friends and get ready to de-stress.
