Since I was born, I have always had a cat in my life. So, when I left home for the first time and I did not have a furry animal to cuddle with all of the time, it left me feeling like a part of me was missing. One day, one of my close friends, Carolina, surprised me with a baby girl kitten since she knew how much I really wanted one. Unfortunately, I lived in a smaller dorm, so I had to give the kitten away. Eventually, when I moved into a different housing arrangement, I got another kitten. This one was from another friend, Elissa, who was looking for a home for a baby boy kitten. I named this kitten Simba. He was PERFECT. Simba has had quite the life up until now, but I will save that for another time. Let's dive into the main reasons why I believe you could use a cat in your life!

1. They are great cuddle buddies.

Not all cats are the same with cuddling. Some cats like to come to you, some cats like it when you come to them, and some cats are in between. My cat back home, Carly, does not like to be picked up at all. She also has to be the one to come to you to cuddle. However, my cat at school, Simba, tolerates being held. He loves attention and cuddles. He even lets me move him to cuddle with him. If it has been a long time since I have seen him, he is extra cuddly. All in all, whether the cuddles last a long time or they are short-lived, kitty cuddles are so special and fulfilling.

2. They make your mood better.

I do not know the science behind it, but for some reason, cats make me happy! I know that it is not just me because cats can be used as emotional support animals. I know that when I see a cat, pet one, sleep with one, etc. my mood gets instantly better. I become calm and content.

3. They are cute.

Have you ever seen a cat in person? They are so beyond cute that I just want to squeeze them! Just look up cute cat videos and you will see what I am talking about!

4. They listen to you.

Do you ever just want to vent to someone without hearing any advice? Well, cats are PURRfect for that. When you are angry, you can vent to them and they will always agree. When you are sad, they can sense it and will usually give you extra cuddles.

5. They are independent.

Cats are not like dogs who need constant attention. Cats do have their moments when they are trying to get your attention, but for the most part, they are pretty independent. Cats are easier to have in college since you can leave them alone more. All you really need to do is feed them, give them water, play with them a little, and give them some love.

6. They are a great source of entertainment.

My roommate, Taylor Hansen, helped me with this one. You will never have to look up cute/funny cat videos again. Why?! Because you have your own cute and funny creature who will do dumb stuff every day to make you laugh. The fact that you cannot communicate with them makes this even funnier because you have no idea why they are doing what they are doing. So, if you are ever bored, all you have to do is hang out with your cat and you will be laughing your butt off! My roommate, Nikita Terho, took the above picture of my cat Simba featuring Taylor in the background and my hand. We have no idea what he was doing, which is why it was so cute, funny, and weird!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
