How To Adjust To College Life

College is truly a great time for people to live on their own, discover new things and become better versions of themselves. But there definitely is a huge adjustment period for all freshmen. Personally, I had a lot of trouble adjusting to college life. I know I wasn’t the only one either. Eventually though it got much, much easier over time, college continues to require constant re-adjusting.

There is so much new that comes into your life when college hits. It is a new environment with completely new people, doing completely new things. I was nervous and it took me awhile to really adjust and get into the swing of what college is.

For all freshmen, it might seem scary that you need to figure out how to do college level work, try new clubs, hang with friends, go to campus events, get laundry done, live with a roommate and sleep! It really can be a lot to figure out but it’s okay! Scheduling is the best way to adjust.

It helps you to figure out when to do certain tasks as well as help you stay on track and not fall behind. Figuring out what is more important to do when and figure out what things can be put off helps you more productive, without as much stressing to get everything done.

Your workload is definitely so different. It is strange how hard it is to get up for an 8 A.M. after going to class straight from 7:30-2:30 for four years. But college homework is very different. Even with fewer hours, there is a lot to read and a lot of actual work, studying, and group projects. Prioritizing your homework and not wasting as much time will keep your stress down. Figure out which homework will take you the longest and tackle that first. Then focus on the easier homework.

The truth is you need to take your time to adjust. It is not going to happen over night, but with enough hard work and diligence, I guarantee you that it will happen! You will grow so much as a person and while college life will never be easy, it will definitely be easier.

College is hard, but it is supposed to be. Adjusting to college and finding yourself may be the greatest thing you have accomplished so far in your life. Even if it is really hard for you, it will all be worth it in time.

Everybody finds his or her niche in college. It is not just about figuring out how to handle a workload and classes, but it is also adjusting to being an independent adult away from familiar environments. Everyone eventually adjusts to the college schedule and the college lifestyle. Do not worry about it, you will eventually find your friends, figure out your classes every semester, and have a fantastic experience.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.
