How many people do you know who have had their video hit the rate of over a million views per hour on YouTube? That’s what happened with Adele’s new music video for her single "Hello." It’s a simple song that will make your heart melt. From the moment she sings the first word until the point where she utters the last word of the song, the listener will be captivated by her voice.
The video is a must watch but even in terms of just the audio, the song has a perfect balance of entertaining and punishing the listener. I won’t deny the fact that before I played the song for the first time, I was actually in a very happy mood. But the moment I played it, I was lost into it, and so much so that I sulked into my bed and even ended up canceling dinner plans with my roommates. But all of this just felt right, Adele and I, needed no one else for the five minutes that the song lasted. Not to mention that my best friend and I ended up listening to it again while we were walking through the city.
The motive of the song is to tell how sometimes we meet people and we think that we will be friends or more for a long time (I mean forever) but it doesn’t really happen and we are left disappointed. Everyone at some point reaches the “outside” and the “other side” and all we can do from that point is to wave and say hello! The song not only makes you come face to face with reality, but it hits you in the face with it. Unlike many other songs that make life seem like a fantasy, which it can be like at times, but not always.
In terms of technicality, there is not much that one can possibly complain about, there is no single point in the track where the music of the background is loud. It makes you look out for the words that are unique in the song but at the same time as evident as the summer sunshine. You have a rhythm to follow and a beat to keep humming all day. I am of course not qualified enough to comment on Adele’s singing, but she does sound fresher than she ever has and her face is all you will want to look at in the video apart from the dark filter and the art designs.
Within 24 hours of going live, the song actually had over 131,000 cover songs being uploaded by fans all over, and this right there sends a very strong message to the skeptics. If you haven’t heard the song yet, you should do so as soon as you can but make sure you’re either on a nice walk by yourself, or in your room with a box of tissues, this is not a coffee shop jam. What is next for Adele is a question, but we should definitely take a moment to appreciate this piece.
