For the first time in over 20 years, Ohio University's Women's Panhellenic Association will be gaining another chapter. With a beautiful house and a lot of enthusiasm, Gamma Phi Beta is ready to take on Ohio University.
The addition of Gamma Phi Beta will bring the total number of National Panhellenic Conference on campus to 10. Gamma Phi Beta will be joining Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Xi Delta, Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, Delta Zeta, Pi Beta Phi and Sigma Kappa at Ohio University.
The last chapter to join Ohio University's campus was Delta Gamma Fraternity in 1993. That same year, the average cost for a gallon of gas was $1.16, "Jurassic Park" was a new release, and Liam Payne was just a baby.
Although they have been present on campus since the start of the 2015 Fall Semester, Gamma Phi Beta will officially begin their recruitment process following the Ohio University Women's Panhellenic Association's formal recruitment. During that time, Gamma Phi Beta will look to add enough members to match the other nine chapter's totals. Their recruitment will include drop-in events, personal appointments, a night dedicated to their philanthropy, Building Strong Girls, a preference night and a bid day. Their recruitment process will begin on Sept. 17, and will conclude on their bid day on Sept. 27. The chapter will be looking to add members spanning all undergraduate grades that embody their four core values: love, labor, learning and loyalty.
Gamma Phi Beta Sorority is one of the 10 largest women's organizations in the world. The sorority, which was first to call themselves a "sorority," was founded Nov. 11, 1874 at Syracuse University in New York. The chapter's mission is "To inspire the highest type of womanhood."
The introduction of a new chapter to the campus allows the entire sorority and fraternity life community to come together to say "Welcome Home." Gamma Phi Beta's presence not only creates excitement for their national headquarters, but it also reinvigorates the Ohio University community as whole. The Bobcat family that is so often praised will be more important than ever. Whether they have been on campus for 100-plus years or just a couple decades, every chapter has tips, advice and support to give to Gamma Phi Beta as they navigate their first year on campus.
