Study Breaks

It started with one show and I guess I got addicted. Along with a nice bottle of wine, this is my go to channel; a channel I know I can count on to have something good on. HGTV isn't always all fun and games though. Sometimes the buyers make it almost impossible to find their dream homes with their budgets, and sometimes they just make stupid choices. Don't get me wrong, there are some good ones; however, I'd say about 70% of them are annoying/unrealistic. A good portion of the time I definitely make different choices than the buyers. Let's be real though, I pay way more attention to the houses and the hosts. Some of these places come straight out of my Pinterest boards. You'd think I'd get sick of constantly watching the same shows time after time, but for some reason I'm hooked and I keep coming back for more.

1. Oh my goodness, Chip and Joanna are so cute together. Like seriously, how are they so good together? They're such relationship goals.

2. Ouch....I wonder how they're going to renovate this one; it's a disaster.

3. Okay, this person has way too high of expectations for their budget.

4. I wonder where the shiplap is going to be put....

5. Wait, which property brother is which?! I stopped paying attention for a second.

6. This couple is really starting to get annoying.

7. Surprise! There's water damage! ....and plumbing problems! ....and faulty electrical! What a nightmare; glad I don't have to deal with that.

8. So let me get this straight, the wife wants a pool, but the husband is so set against a pool. I wonder how big the pool is going to be!

9. Oooooh this is my kind of master suite. I'll have a master suite like this one day.

10. So I definitely need a walk in closet like that....like now!

11. Seriously?! Why are you listing instead of loving?! This house is a million times better!

12. Seriously though....which one is Jonathan and which one is Drew?

13. Oooooh they're looking internationally! I could totally afford to live in the Netherlands. *checks bank account* Never mind...

14. I really hope house number 3 is a lot better.

15. Demo day!

16. I could easily flip houses for a living. This looks like nothing.

17. I would love to have a $2.5 million budget.

18. Really? White furniture? Didn't you guys say you wanted to start a family?

19. Ooooh this one has a finished basement; that adds so much more usable square footage.

20. I really love the look of open concept homes.

21. Surprise, they went over budget!

22. A tiny home is totally feasable.

23. How is Hillary going to add a fourth bedroom to this place AND expand the kitchen?

24. I want to be featured on one of these shows! I'd totally have realistic expectations.

25. Have I really been watching this for four hours?! Oops....

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
