Adam McIlwee's 'Stress' Brings Indie And Rap Together

Adam McIlwee is back at it again with the release of his new song "Stress" featuring Camp Cope's Georgia Maq. After leaving Tigers Jaw in 2013 McIlwee was a co-creator of the rap collective GOTHBOICLIQUE and began working more on his solo project, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal. This is when he began to bend the genres of music to create something unique. In GOTHBOICLIQUE McIlwee was one of the ten rappers involved in making the band's music, that is labeled as "emo rap."

McIlwee has now signed to Run For Cover Records where the Australian indie band Camp Cope is also signed. To celebrate Run For Cover re-releasing his album "Secret Boy" he teamed up with Camp Cope's guitarist/vocalist Georgia Maq for his new song "Stress," which you can listen to here. Now let me tell you, at first I was hesitant to like this song because of the sample beat that runs behind the entire song, but once McIlwee and Maq began singing I was instantly in love. They have managed to seamlessly blend the recognizable trap sample with smooth vocals that give the song an indie feel. The same can be said for McIlwee's other releases in his solo project, which you can listen to here.

By blending these genres together McIlwee and his fellow members of the collective GOTHBOICLIQUE have been deemed as the "future of emo," but even though he was influenced by emo music McIlwee says that he never specifically attempted to create emo music. In fact, he "tried to avoid any trends that take cues from that genre." By leaving Tigers Jaw and becoming a part of the emo-rap community McIlwee is able to do what he believes will benefit music for the future. He is being creative in the ways that he pushes boundaries and morphs genres.

You can pre-order "Secret Boy" here or purchase it on October 19th. You can buy tickets for his tour here.

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
