If you've ever watched anything on the television that involved food, you'll immediately know what I'm talking about. That feeling that you're a master chef as soon as the credits roll, and you go into the kitchen to try to make marinated chicken with a fresh romaine citrus salad and a carrot sauce, but all you have is a microwave dinner and some peanut butter. This movie will take that feeling and multiply it by at least a million.
First of all, who doesn't love Bradley Cooper? Those eyes. 'Nuff said. And he plays his part as a 2-star Michelin chef trying to get his third star very well. (For those of you who don't know, any restaurant you've ever been to probably has a one Michelin star chef, 2-Michelin star chefs are like Obi-Wan Kenobi, and 3-Michelin star chefs are like Yoda.) He plays such a passionate, almost crazy man, and he portrays it almost to a T. The emotions he displays on-screen are so raw and so real, you can't tear your eyes away.
Next, the food. You look at this food, and half the time you don't even know what it is, but it looks so good. Bradley Cooper never makes the same thing twice, either. And he puts flowers on the plate! You're sitting there like, "Can you eat flowers?" questioning all of your life choices up to this point, and Bradley Cooper is just cooking his little soul out, putting flowers on the plates, and making cake for little girls (spoiler alert, it's not a big part of the movie though).
And, finally, the romance. If you're a guy and you don't like romance movies, it doesn't matter, because the romance in this movie is absolutely perfect for both sexes. It's subtle and light, and even humorous at times. Not only is there a female romantic interest for Bradley Cooper's character, but there is also a MALE romantic interest.
No, this movie is not a comedy, and it's not a "chick flick," either. While, yes, there are funny parts, and there are also romantic parts, what this movie boils down to is an ambitious chef who is trying to accomplish everything he has ever dreamed of. I'm not going to tell you how it ends, but it's a very satisfactory ending, let me tell you.
After watching this movie, I didn't find myself with that urge to cook a 5(or 3)-star meal. I found myself with the urge to EAT one of the meals I saw created on the screen.
