9 Simple Acts Of Kindness That Make A Difference In Life

Did you ever realize how one small action a person does such as opening the door for you or telling you they love your style, brings a smile instantly to your face? One small act of kindness can make a world of difference. Here are some small things you can implement into your life to spread that kindness to others.

1. Respect.

This can include simple manners such as opening the door for someone else, saying please and thank you, or wishing them a great day. These should be things you already know about but you'd be surprised how often people forget to do them. They have a bigger impact than you think.

2. Helping others.

Such as aiding someone who may have a car with a flat tire on the side of the road. Obviously only do this if you know how to change a tire and if this situation is in a safe environment. If you aren't able to do that, you could always help someone who you see is struggling to get their groceries in their car or letting a person go in front of you in line because they have fewer things than you do.

3. Complimenting someone.

If you see a person who has really bright purple hair and you think that’s awesome, go and tell them! I can guarantee that it will brighten their whole day. It's so easy to just say a few kind words and you have already changed that person's day in such a positive way.

4. If you find money, donate it to a charity instead of keeping it for yourself.

I know that you probably get so excited when you find money on the sidewalk. But maybe you can give it to a worthy cause that could benefit from that small donation instead of using it on yourself.

5. Giving your old clothes to Goodwill.

If you have clothes that have been sitting in the back of your closet that hasn't been touched for years, time to grab a bag and bring all that stuff to Goodwill. Not only are you cleaning your closet but you are also helping people in your community to get jobs.

6. Calling a friend who you know is going through a lot.

That one phone call can give them the relief they need. Whether they just need someone to vent to or they need a distraction for the time being. It never hurts to reach out and make sure they are doing okay.

7. Paying it forward.

Do a good deed and instead of asking for anything in return, simply ask them to pay it forward to someone else. You could start this by paying the toll for the person behind you or paying for the meal of a family in a restaurant.

8. Volunteering at least once a month.

It only takes a few hours out of one of your free days in the month. You could donate your time to a community Soup Kitchen, help out at a walk fundraiser, or give your company to those in a nursing home. There’s an endless amount of volunteer opportunities that you can take part in and that will make a difference.

9. Smiling.

It is the most miniscule thing out of the grand scheme of spreading positivity but it will definitely give a person a spring in their step.

In all of these ways, you are changing someone’s life in a positive light. The overall way to spread kindness is to treat others the way you want to be treated. As cliché as that sounds, what you put into the universe is exactly what you are going to get back.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
