Our teachers tell us

We can be anything we want to be.

If we believe hard enough, we could accomplish anything

Like the underdog who gets beat up in the opening scene

And is the hero by the end credits.

But without a script, life doesn’t happen this way.

Unless it’s a bunch of famous actors

Getting paid to back off

From the outcasts

And the losers

And the ones that the rich kids

Beat up

Every Thursday after school.

We can try as hard as the next kid

Or harder

In hopes that one day

We will escape their words

And their punches

And no one will beat us up anymore
