Activities That Are Beneficial To The Soul

Sometimes You Just Need To Take A Break And Do Some Soul Searching

Sometimes you get caught up in the rush of life and you forget that you need to take time and relax. There are so many activities that are nourishing to the soul and relaxing at the same time. Here is a list of the many things that I enjoy doing when I need a soul refresher.

Painting

Painting is relaxing because you do not have to actually be good at it. You can paint whatever you want whether it is painting an actual picture or just painting a pattern on something. It is refreshing to just paint whatever your mind is telling you to.

Make a Spotify Playlist

This might sound time-consuming and boring, but making a playlist of the music you enjoy is actually really enjoyable. You can make playlists for your different moods and once you have them all done you can listen to them when you are doing other activities.

Go to a coffeehouse

A coffeehouse is one of the most classic ideas of relaxation. Going to a coffeehouse and tuning into your favorite music allows you to block out the world around you and enjoy some "you" time for a little bit.

Take pictures

Taking pictures of anything and everything is always relaxing. You can take pictures of things that you find to be pretty and even edit them if you want to, then you can look at them later and reflect on why you took the picture and why you thought it was beautiful at that time.

Color

Coloring is by far one of my favorite relaxation things to do. They now sell the awesome coloring books that consist of mandalas, patterns, and shapes. You can buy these at bookstores everywhere. It is even more relaxing to color outside on a sunny day.

Eno

Most people by now are familiar with an Eno. But if you are not, an Eno is a portable hammock that you can take with you anywhere and hang it up. You can buy a single-person hammock to enjoy by yourself or a double-person hammock to enjoy with somebody else. Eno-ing is fun to do in a park or anywhere that you find to be peaceful.

Go to a bookstore

A bookstore is always full of its own type of peacefulness. Whether you are interested in poetry, history, science, fiction, how-to's, crime, or whatever it might be, a bookstore has it all.

Go on a drive

Most people hate driving, but for the most part, it is pretty relaxing. Especially at nighttime when it is perfect weather for you to roll your windows down and blast your music. Driving back roads is both peaceful and a pretty sight to see.

Journal

Journaling is where you have the ability to be the most creative. You can journal about your life, write a story, or anything you can think of. It is a great way to vent if you are not one who typically likes to talk to people about things. You can publish your journals for people to read on a website, or if you do not want others to read what you wrote then you can even just keep a written book of your very own journal entries.

Everybody has their own idea of what is relaxing to do, but these are just a few of my favorites that always seem to help. It is important to remember to take a break from life every now and then to do something that is beneficial to the soul.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Advice To Live By As Told By Bob's Burgers

The Belchers hold the key to a better life.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
