Ohio State University is on lockdown due to an active shooter on campus. The university has posted a statement for students to take shelter, "Run Hide Fight." and to avoid Watts Hall, 19th and College.
There are eight known victims, one is in critical condition. The types of injuries are currently unknown.
Columbus local media has reported that one suspect is dead but details about how the suspect died are unknown. Police believe there was only one suspect.
As of 11:31 a.m., the shelter-in-place has been lifted for now and classes are canceled.
There are also reports of an alleged knife attack and SUV attack but no confirmation.
At 6:56 a.m. Ohio State University Emergency Managment tweeted:
Since the first tweet, OSU has only stated multiple alerts to avoid the scene but no information about shooters description, victim description or how many suspects are involved.
"I remember my roommate saying he heard the gunshots," said OSU student Wyatt Crosher. He can't confirm whether or not if what he and his roommate heard was in fact, the gunshot but was alerted by the university soon after.
Update:
Ohio State University has released a statement to students that the scene is now secure and classes are cancelled. The university has also stated that the area around 19th and College Ave. remain closed.
The suspect is dead and police believe there was only one shooter. There is no report about who the suspect was and if he/she was a student or not.
Fox News is now reporting that 10 have been sent to the hospital for unknown injuries. One remains in critical condition.
