A Helping Hand

Accountability is more important than I thought.

All right, I’ve got to level with you all. I want to be a little more transparent about my life, and hopefully someone else can learn from my experiences. So, the truth is, my spiritual walk, or personal relationship with Jesus, has really taken a downturn here lately. Really since the beginning of this summer it has seemed like I had hit a slow patch and just couldn’t get back going. I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit, and I believe I have found a trend. This event has actually been taking place ever since my freshman year of college. I will hit some high points during the school year, be all excited about Jesus, then as soon as class is let out for summer I start falling. My passion seems to become non-existent.

What is the deal? Why can’t I stay at an even pace in all seasons of life? Why am I stuck?

After thinking on this for a while, and asking God for some clarity, I have the answer. Accountability.

It is so simple, and I can’t believe I missed that. All throughout the school year, I am constantly surrounded by fellow Christians that keep me focused and continue to check on me. I also make sure to stay on them, and we all work together to stay passionate and continue to seek God. However, once summer comes around we all go our seperate ways, and my effort to stay in touch and keep accountability kind of just goes out the window.

Today, I want to stress the importance of accountability to you all. I don’t want anyone else to have to fight these same battles over and over. I’m praying that my issues will give you clarity today, and you can move on in your walk with Jesus.

I have a few more examples to prove the necessity of accountability. The first coming from the very beginning of creation. God said in Genesis 2:18 that “it is not good for man to be alone…” and he went on to create Eve for Adam. This began a community for both Adam and Eve. They had each other to help carry burdens. Since we are made in His image, it also is another reflection of our Creator. God himself is a community, and is always living in it. He is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. I know the Trinity can be confusing sometimes to talk about, but I want to show you the importance of accountability through community. If our Lord is never alone, what sense does it make for His creation to try to live this faith by ourselves?

Another example comes from King David. God said that David was a man after His heart. David earnestly served the Lord, and did his best to be obedient. However, he was still a human, and came into trouble every now and then. The most famous example was his encounter with Bathsheba. David could have gotten away with sleeping with her and having her husband killed in battle. He was the king, who was going to question him? But God sent in a man named Nathan to hold David accountable, and put him back on track. Once again, accountability proves its importance.

I will end with a more recent example. Mr. Billy Graham. Almost everyone has heard of him and the work he did for God. He brought the Gospel to thousands and thousands of people. Through all the years of ministry, Billy Graham kept all credibility. How did he do that? Many people don’t know that Billy Graham constantly had a team with him. They set out specific rules, and held each other accountable to those in order to stay pure and continue to focus on their mission for Jesus.

If you haven’t caught my point yet, let me say it once more: accountability is important! I hope that after reading this you will challenge yourself to find some people that you can surround yourself with. If you can’t find someone, then hit me up! I always need more accountability, and I would love to help you out. I can also help you to find more. Please learn from my errors, and take the next step to have an awesome faith.

I love you all! Have an awesome day. Jesus loves you!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
