In today’s day and age, young people are diving into everything.

Besides school, there are extracurriculars, hobbies and other passions. Some dance, make music, write, bike… and some do multiple of those activities. With that, we all have goals. Some of us want to go to medical school or graduate school, but some of us want to do dual activities. Some want to be a researcher who writes for a newspaper and dances competitively. Some want to be a doctor while also being an artist. So, how does one accomplish to many goals almost simultaneously?

Here’s a guide just for that:

1. Write Em’ Down

It’s true––writing down your plans and goals can really help you achieve them. It is the visual reminder that gets us acting out our goals rather than thinking of them. Go ahead and write them down everywhere—in your planner, your bathroom mirror, your refrigerator… keep on reminding yourself so that you will never be steered away from your vision.

2. Get Organized

How is it that I go to school, work in lab, dance, write and peer mentor? Well, besides some sleepless nights, it is all in time management. You have to write down what needs to get done, meet deadlines, prioritize and really be passionate about what you do. If you can master that, you will progress in achieving your goals, as well as still having a social life. Isn’t that the dream?

3. Will Power and Persistence

Having will power is key here. There are times where you will want to give up. You might become frustrated by not seeing results, or you will grow very tired. Some mornings you won’t want to get up and go to work, and some nights you just want to watch Netflix instead of working on that huge project due in a few days. Will power can cure this, if you practice it and make that skill a habit. Keep striving towards your vision. Be persistent, take breaks, work hard and keep going. You won’t regret it.

4. Purpose

Why do you do what you do? That is an imperative question most forget to ask themselves. Without an answer to this question, it is so easy to lose sight of your goals. Often remind yourself why you do what you do, and what the bigger purpose is. Then, you will always find your motive.

5. Short term to long term

Lastly, don’t only set long-term goals. It is more productive to set many short term goals in order to achieve your long-term goals. These can be set weekly or monthly, in assurance that you are making progress.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
