There is a saying that says, "you accept the love you think you deserve."
I believe whole heartedly that that is true.
But I also think you attract friends who have felt the same pain as you but are stronger than you are.
This turned out to be true when I met one of the most amazing people I've ever come across.
There are people in this world that have the compassion to make you feel like you can tell them anything in the world and they won't judge you or make you feel as though you are alone.
One night, this past semester I was having a bad night. I was working and couldn't show that I was upset, but Jen knew. She could sense that something was off.
That night I formed a bond over something I thought no one else would ever understand.
It was after that night that Jen and I got closer and we realized that our pasts and our families were really very similar.
Over the course of the last 5 months I've realized that Jen has felt what I have and she is much stronger than I am right now.
And that gives me hope.
Hope that by finding people who have walked a similar path as you and have become stronger and that it really does become ok.
We live in a selfish world.
Your 20s are suppose to be selfish.
Jen has showed me that the right people in this world are the ones who call you after work.
The friends that FaceTime you to ask you about your day.
The friends that never let you forget that you aren't alone.
No matter how far away they might be, they are always there.
Life is painful, it's full of heartbreak, grief, hardships.
But more importantly, life is all about finding people who never let you forget that it's worth living.
Timing in life is everything.
And meeting Jen when I did was exactly what I needed to remind me that everything doesn't have to be so cloudy.
And that I'm not alone with the pain I carry.
Being a person like Jen is not easy.
You carry a lot of others pain with you, but you may just remind someone how much easier it is to be there for others.
I have to thank Jen for making me a better person.
A better friend.
A better worker.
Hold onto those who feel like sunshine.
