Too many people overlook or may not even know the signs of abuse in relationships. The National Domestic Violence Hotline reported that about 84 percent of victims are psychologically abused by their partners, half are physically abused, and one-third experiences sexual coercion.
The devastating truth is that abuse is common.
Too further educate you about specifically what abuse is, here are some thoughts and explanations. There are many types of abuse such as emotional, physical and sexual. Emotional abuse could be something as simple but frightening as yelling to manipulating the truth or lying to get what the abuser wants. Physical abuse could be grabbing onto his or her partner so he or she cannot leave when they would like to. Sexual abuse is in my opinion the worst kind of abuse but of course not disregarding the other types of abuse. This can be making threats about sexual activity or sexual coercion.
The abuser may not even know that he or she is being abusive.
However, this does not give any exemptions for such actions. Being abusive is never okay in any situation. So, just how bad is bad? Well, almost 1 in 3 (29%) college women say they have been in an abusive dating relationship. Does that tell you just how bad this domestic abuse is? Please, if you or someone you know is in or might be in an abusive relationship, get help right away. You can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or go online right here.
