What You Need to Know About Philadelphia's Restaurant Week

Philadelphia’s Center City District Restaurant Week is returning – this time for two weeks in the summer.

Philadelphia’s Restaurant Week, which is typically held every fall and winter, is a great chance to try new eateries, giving food lovers and first-time city dwellers alike the unique opportunity to try a participating restaurant for a great price.

The setup is simple; from Aug. 2-7 and 9-14, participating restaurants will offer three-course dinners for $35 which would normally be slightly to significantly more expensive. Many of the same restaurants will also offer a three-course lunch for $20, plus the costs of alcoholic beverages, gratuity and tax.

Great deals on delicious food, amazing right? Here are ways to ensure that your experience is memorable, whether you’re a Restaurant Week veteran or a first-time diner.

1. Get a Group Together

Stop making excuses about why you can't go and start making plans! Restaurant Week is a great opportunity to get dressed up, get together with a big group of friends and enjoy a night out in Philadelphia.

2. Make a Reservation in Advance

Making a reservation is crucial if you want to enjoy a stress-free Restaurant Week experience, as many places fill up very quickly, especially around dinnertime. Lucky for you, making reservations is super easy, as OpenTable.com provides links to each of the participating restaurants with available times for reservations. OpenTable also provides a drop-down menu with regional locations of restaurants as well as cuisine choices for more indecisive diners.

3. Pay Attention to Specific Restaurant Deals/Offers

While many of the participating restaurants in Restaurant Week follow the guidelines of 20 lunches and $35 dinners, some of establishments have restrictions like not serving lunch on Sundays or being closed altogether on particular days. Looking online at the restaurant’s website is the best way to make sure that you know exactly what you are getting out of your Restaurant Week experience.

4. Plan out your Transportation

Whether you drive into the city for your night out or opt to take public transportation, make sure that you pre-plan the way that you will get around. The Philadelphia Parking Association and the Philadelphia Parking Authority will offer discounted parking for many parking garages and lots in the city during Restuarant Week.

5. Follow Restaurant Week on Social Media

Keep up with the latest information about Restaurant Week by following @PhilaRestWeek on Twitter.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
