All About Me

Here's some insight into who I am.

All About Me
Sara Reeves

My name is Sara Reeves and I am a sophomore at California University of Pennsylvania. As I am a new content creator for the Odyssey, our team leader Katy's idea for the members of our community to answer questions about ourselves in an article seems fitting. I am looking forward to getting to know the members of my community and vice versa.

Without further ado, here is a little introduction!

How would your best friends describe you?

My best friends would probably describe me as hardworking, funny, and studious, if I had to guess. However, for the sake of being accurate, I asked my sister (who is my very best friend) to describe me in a few words, and she provided me with "intelligent, diligent, and resourceful." Thanks, Jess!

Tell me 10 things I would see when I walk into your room?

I share a room with my aforementioned sister, so a lot of the things that you see when you walk into my room are hers. However, you would probably see clothes that need put away, our cork board covered with pictures of our family and friends, as well as ticket stubs and memorabilia, high-end cosmetics, photos of Michael Jackson (aka my lover), a surplus of curling irons (even though I rarely curl my hair, and when I do, I use the same iron), a Jonas Brothers poster from 2008 still hanging on our door, coffee mugs that probably need taken downstairs, a crucifix, canvas paintings, and probably a shopping bag or two.

What are 3 random facts to know about you?

1. I am extremely afraid of birds. Don't judge.

2. I have watched the soap opera "The Young and the Restless" with my sister, my mom, and my grandma for as long as I can remember. We still watch it every day!

3. My beautiful Italian family and my faith are the most important things in my life.

What teacher or professor most impacted your life and why?

I haven't had "that professor" at Cal yet, but I have certainly had my share of impactful teachers at Carmichaels, where I went to elementary school and high school. My English and French teacher, Mrs. Rose Gabeletto, definitely changed my life for the better. She taught me more than her respective subjects. Her warmth, her unceasing wit, her boundless knowledge, and her genuine love for her students showed me the kind of teacher I want to be someday.

Why did you choose to create content with Odyssey?

For my entire life, I have loved to write. That being said, I had always seen articles being shared on social media, and I enjoyed reading and sharing them. Soon, I started seeing people that I knew writing articles and I realized that it is something that you can get involved in doing if you wanted to. Luckily, my fellow Carmichaels alum, Moriah, helped me along in getting involved. Thanks, Moriah!

What motivates you to continue creating content for Odyssey?

Realizing that the content that is put out there on Odyssey can reach just the right people at just the right time is what motivates me to continue creating. There have been numerous times that I have read an article written by someone I don't even know that has resonated with me or that has inspired me. I would like for my articles to do that for someone else.

What are you majoring in and why did you choose that field?

I am a Secondary English Education major at Cal U. I have known that I wanted to be a teacher since elementary school, and English is one of the great loves of my life. What better way to pay it forward than to teach students to love it as much as I do?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years, I will be 24 years old and I will have graduated from Cal U. I will probably be substitute teaching and working on getting a permanent teaching job. Hopefully by then I'll have a steady boyfriend, too. That wouldn't hurt!

Who’s your personal hero? Why?

My personal hero has to be my grandma, Mary Pascuzzo. She recently turned 80 years old, and earlier this year, she suffered a stroke that affected her equilibrium. This, coupled with her already bad knees, had the prospect of her walking on her own again looking impossible. We thought that the grandma we knew was no longer. However, my grandma worked hard in physical, occupational, and speech therapy to get herself to where she is today. She is stronger than ever in a lot of ways, and I could not be prouder of my sweet grandma.

What animal best represents you and why?

This is a tough question, and I can honestly say that I've never thought about it before. I'm going to go with a Koloa bear, though, because they are little and like to sleep.

If you could live through any historical event when/ what would it be and why?

My parents have always told me that I should have been born in the late '60s like them because I am so enamored with the soft rock of the '70s, the superstars that emerged in the '80s, and the grunge of the '90s. I am not much of a history buff, but as a music fanatic, it would have been awesome to have lived through these different musical eras.

Is your childhood dream job the same as your current dream job? Explain.

As I said, I have known that I wanted to be a teacher since I was a young girl. Well, except for a period of time when I was about six that I wanted to be a spy. Other than that, yes, my dream job has always been teaching.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

11 Signs You Grew Up In Hauppauge, NY

Because no one ever really leaves.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
