About Ciara Charlotte
Ciara Charlotte

I’m Ciara Charlotte. Singer, Public Speaker and Motivator. My two platforms are #BeBrave and #ShareASmile.

Be Brave is started out as an anti-bullying campaign. I created a presentation to inform people about bullying. What is bullying? Cyberbullying? How do they affect people? Who exactly is involved? How can we prevent it?

I’ve expanded Be Brave to an anti-hate movement. Each of us are different in our own ways. At the end of the day, however, we are all people. We are all living to succeed, at least in our own eyes.

Share A Smile is a way to “perk up” each participant’s day, to make them smile. It all started with two buckets. One for note deposits, and one for taking a note for one’s self. Each person writes an anonymous note to “Share A Smile,” with a stranger. Once it is dropped it in the bucket, (where each note is checked to make sure it is nice/appropriate), the participant gets to take a note from the (approved-notes) bucket, that way, each person gets a special note to make him/her smile as well!

Recently, I have lost someone close to my heart. I worked at Studio Noir in Long Beach, helping out with the kids band, "Awkward Silence." Brendan Carr was the young drummer with tons of swag. He hid his smile well, but he recently committed suicide. I haven't gone a day without crying since I heard the news. He was a young, middle school student, who was bullied until he felt there was only one way out.

In honor of Brendan's life, I am hosting an event in memory and tribute to Brendan. With a growing team of support, I am certain to make this a great event. The event is being planned for a date in February at Five Towns College. If you are interested in volunteering (in any way), PLEASE do not hesitate to send your contact information & what you would like to do to be a part of #BeBrave & #ShareASmile's upcoming event.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
