Me, Myself And I

Being who you are is what makes people notice you. When I am who I am, that's what people like. I answered a few questions to help you all get to know me a little better.

1. How would your best friends describe you?

My friends would probably describe me as talkative, small, full of energy, and liking glittery things.

2. Tell me ten things I would see when I walk into your room?

In my room you would find the follow: blue walls, everything zebra print, glittery decor, Gerald (big teddy bear), clothing, pillows, a TV, a puppy, a slushie and a computer with Facebook open on it.

3. What are three random facts to know about you?

I have a sweet tooth because I love anything with sugar. I love pillows, especially since I have 10. I love watching cooking shows even though I can’t cook.

4. What teacher or professor most impacted your life and why?

Mr. Baker from my high school has impacted my life the most. He was my senior NPS teacher and I took every criminal class that he offered. I had him for five classes my senior year and he showed me how to pull the best work out of myself, plus his class was a blast and the most fun I had because I had it with all my friends.

5. Why did you choose to create content with Odyssey?

I love to write and writing for Odyssey allows me to express myself and write whatever I want that comes to my mind.

6. What motivates you to continue creating content for Odyssey?

I want to be a journalist when I get out of college so writing for Odyssey is just furthering my reporting career and giving me the experience I need to help my writing ability.

7. What are you majoring in and why did you choose that field?

I am majoring in communications journalism with a focus in electronic media. I choose this field because I love to write about interesting and exciting things but also report about them. I love sports and entertainment and I want to be a reporter for "E News" or the "Today Show" one day.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I want to be graduated from college and hopefully starting a full time job that I enjoy. I hopefully will be heading to New York or LA because I want to be in or a part of the entertainment industry some day.

9. Who’s your personal hero? Why?

My personal hero is my mom because I have always looked up to the person she is and I admire her greatly and love her very much.

10. What animal best represents you and why?

I would be a zebra because I love black and white but also because I love to roam around and explore what’s around me just like they do.

11. If you could live through any historical event when/ what would it be and why?

I would live through the American Revolution because I wanted to see what America would be like and how they fought for our country.

12. Is your childhood dream job the same as your current dream job? Explain.

My dream job is different from what my current dream job is because when I was little I wanted to be a detective or crime scene investigator because I was obsessed with CSI and crime shows and now I wanna be a reporter because I love entertainment shows and news.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
