If you have not heard Donald Trump is our new president. One era has ended and a new one has now taken over. I myself am extremely concerned and skeptical and do not agree with certain aspects of what is to be enacted, discussed, and transformed in these next four years. So, I understand and relate to those who are reading this on why you are angry, fearful, and alarmed.
This weekend marked one of the most legendary marches around the United States: the women’s march that had at least three million men and women stand up for their own opinions and rights. That to me is both powerful and astounding.
This is a time of transition, one that is terrifying yet intriguing, as it is time for a new administration to raise the bar and see what it can do. To quote America Ferrera, “Trump's cabinet is not America.” Correct, it is every single person who lives, works, teaches, and breathes in this country is what makes this place as incredible as it is.
That brings me to my point. When one expresses hate, negativity, and disrespect on every social media outlet and in public because of his or her own beliefs that is what draws the line. Set your own political beliefs aside and look at how you can make an impact in both a strong and positive way. Hate, violence, and disrespect is neither the answer nor what our country stands for.
It is 2017, a truly incredible time to witness such changes being made both around the world and in our own country. Do not be ashamed of who you are, what political party you affiliate with, what you stand for, and what you aspire to do and transform in your lifetime. However do not go about it in a way that hurts others. Do not knock someone else down for supporting one particular party. We are all better than that. We as a country are better than that. Moreover, continue to hold your ground as you alone represent a voice and ideas that will transform the next generation.
