Abortion...Legal & Free?

With the election around the corner, we want to know what the candidates are saying about abortion!

A survey taken in 2004 showed why women had abortions and they found that women also cited possible problems affecting the health of the fetus or concerns about their own health. Meaning that approximately 1 in 8 abortions are related to "possible problems" related to the health of the mother; which was also broadly defined in the study. Planned Parenthood’s 2008-2009 report states that it received $363.2 million in "Government Grants and Contracts".

Hillary Clinton is taking a position that is supporting abortion. Safe, legal, and free... what do you think? She has said in multiple interviews that an unborn child just hours before birth should have no constitutional rights. On February 6, at the GOP debate Hillary made it clear she does support abortion until the day of birth. In 2005 Hillary gave a speech stating, “We can all recognize that abortion in many ways represents a sad, even tragic choice to many, many women". In February, Clinton said she would like to overturn the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to pay for abortions. Is Clinton wanting the public to treat abortions as if they were good for women, and wanting taxpayers to pay for them? What is your stance?

Donald Trump recently stated "As far as Planned Parenthood is concerned, I'm pro-life. I'm totally against abortion, having to do with Planned Parenthood. But millions and millions of women -- cervical cancer, breast cancer -- are helped by Planned Parenthood. So you can say whatever you want, but they have millions of women going through Planned Parenthood that are helped greatly. And I wouldn't fund it. I would defund it because of the abortion factor, which they say is 3 percent. I don't know what percentage it is. They say it's 3%. But I would defund it, because I'm pro-life. But millions of women are helped by Planned Parenthood". Just a reminder that taxpayers are currently paying for Planned Parenthood services. Is that a great or horrible thing? What do you think? In February at the conservative CPAC conference, Donald declared himself pro-life after years of supporting the pro-abortion position. Several months ago, when questioned about his stance in an interview with Fox News he characterized himself as pro-life. Trump stated, "I am pro-life" and pledged to fight for the reversal of ObamaCare, which contains abortion funding loopholes".

The United States has extreme abortion laws compared to the rest of the world. The US is one of only a handful of countries that even allow abortions past 20 weeks. Other countries include China, North Korea, and Vietnam. Some want abortion to be readily available to anyone and at any moment of the birth. And some want taxpayers to pay for them. Do you agree or disagree? What do you think?

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
