To My Kindred Spirits

To all of my kindred spirits, near and far, this is for you.

To My Kindred Spirits

Many people believe that people, places, and things contain an internal energy which resonates at a given frequency. This energy can be felt by others; it can draw people close or push people away depending on the frequency overlay. Building on this, many people believe that a kindred spirit is something which contains an internal energy resonating at the same frequency as our own energy does; it is something that we encounter and just seem to click with. It is the person you can never seem to pinpoint exactly when you became friends, you just all of the sudden were. It is the pet who knows exactly how you are feeling, no matter the feeling. It is the place you seek out when you need a break from the crazy world you live in, a place where peace is all you can feel. A kindred spirit is something you simply harmonize with. We all have many in our lives, and today I want to write to mine.

To my kindred spirits, the ones who understand me the most, in both the slightest and the most complicated of ways. To the ones who came into my life for a short time, and to the ones who stayed quite a bit longer. To the ones who encouraged me, and to the ones who may have brought me down just because you knew how, this one is for you.

There are a few things I want you to know. I want you to know that every time I think about us, about our friendship or our relationship, I am simply consumed with shock and awe. Shock that I was lucky enough to meet you at just the right time in my life, and awe because it was, and still is, effortless. I want you to know that your ability to understand has propelled me through the toughest times in my life, and for that I am forever grateful. I want you to know that your happiness is my happiness, and weather we are right next to each other or hundreds of miles apart, I will always feel that happiness with you. And I want you to know that I carry a part of you wherever I go, simply because you’ve become such a crucial part of my life.

There are also a few things I want to thank you for. I want to thank you for always pushing me to be better, because you knew there was better out there for me. I want to thank you for checking in on me, for caring about how I was doing, even when you were having a hard time too. I want to thank you for letting me make my mistakes, because sometimes you just have to let someone mess up for them to finally learn. I want to thank you for being willing to ditch everything at the drop of a hat (or the ring of a phone) if I ever asked for it. And I want to thank you for the laughs, the tears, and everything in between, because they are the memories I cherish the most.

Finally, there are a few things I want you to remember. Even if we drift apart, I want you to remember that I will always have a phone you can call and an ear you can talk to. I want you to remember that no matter how old we grow, I will always keep a goofy picture of us around, simply to have a goofy story to tell to whoever is willing to listen. I want you to remember that in every moment our energy is still on the same wavelength, and it will always stay that way. I want you to remember that, just like we came into each other’s lives, you will have other kindred spirits enter yours; and I want you to remember to cherish them like we cherish each other.

There are so many things I want to write to you, but I have a feeling you probably know it all already; because after all, we are kindred spirits.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
