The ABCs of Lasell College

You may know your actual ABCs, well hopefully, but do you know your Lasell College ones?

Once you step foot on Lasell College's beautiful 53-acre-plus campus there are tons of things to love. There's the Victorian mansion converted dorms, our spacious quads and our neighborhood atmosphere. However, liking a college and loving a college is different from the day you took a tour when you were in high school, and the first day of the rest of your four years as an admitted student.

Some great things about Lasell are visible after your first step on campus. Your Lasell ABCs on other hand take some getting to know. Do you know your Lasell ABCs? Because us Lasers do.

A is for...A Place we call home.

For four years Lasell is literally our home. It feeds us, love us, houses us and supports us.

B is for...Boomer.

We might not have the most common mascot but we do have Boomer and we love his blue torch holding self.

C is for...Crosswalks.

Every college student knows that a little bump in crosswalk could mean free tuition and free tuition means more money for beer. Seems like a fair trade-off.

D is for...Domino's & Dragon Chef.

We love our take-out, especially Domino's & Dragon Chef. We might all complain we're too broke when it comes to some things but we always have enough for them.

E is for...Einstein's.

Bless your soul Einstein's for giving us that much-needed coffee in the morning.

F is for...Franco's.

Contrary to popular belief Franco's isn't just for Lasell students, however whether a Thursday night or Sunday night, you would sure think so.

G is for...the Green line.

There's nothing more convenient than being smack dab between two green line stops and being so close to Boston.

H is for...Hamel House.

The place where our journey as a Laser begins.

I is for...ID.

As in do not, I repeat do not lose it because it'll take $50, a few tears, and a post on all the Facebook pages to replace it.

J is for...Jim Ostrow.

We love him but not necessarily all of the emails, except when it's a snow day. Keep those coming!

K is for...Karaoke.

Can't think of another school that doesn't spend every single Thursday night shamelessly belting out the same throwbacks.

L is for...Lasers.

So maybe our mascot and being known as the Lasell Lasers is a little confusing but we don't care we own and love it. Especially if it means sporting a free t-shirt.

M is for...Marathon Monday.

It's easily one of the most exciting days of the year for us. We cheer, we have laugh, we dance and other "recreational" activities.

N is for...Newton.

For keeping us safe and comfortable as a home away from hometown.

O is for...Office of Student Activities.

Thank you. For giving us things to do, aka free things to do. Like selling discounted sports tickets, you're the best.

P is for...Parade as in the Torchlight Parade.

As a historical campus, we're known for our traditions.

Q is for...Quad.

We have two of them and you're sure to find us outside, no matter the season doing something.

R is for...Rob the shuttle driver.

We love him and his presence on campus!

S is for...Sundae Sunday.

Even though we have ice cream available 24/7 the idea of hot fudge and sprinkles creates a line and a frenzy.

T is for...Thursday night aka nugget night.

Although Thursdays might be known for something else on college campuses, here at Lasell if its Thursday it means chicken nuggets.

U is for...Uber.

The poor drivers have no idea how to navigate our campus but we're smart enough to find a safe way to have fun.

V is for...Values to Live By.

Although we may be small, we are mighty. As is our "pursuit of great".

W is for..."What school do you go to again?!"

Being a small private school means having to repeat yourself 24/7 and no one ever knowing where you go to school.

X is for...okay we all know there's nothing for X. Xylophone?

Y is for...Yamawaki

For always providing us entertainment whether it's a play or a performance.

Z is for the Zzzz's we never get.

By the time we're through the week of sundae Sunday, chicken nugget night rides on the shuttle, and time at Franco's, we're in need of some down time.

Now you know your Lasell ABCs!

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter
morethanwheels

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
