Uconn Storrs is a lively, highly populated campus that is so large it is close to being an entire town on its own. But a bit of a distance away from the constant hustle and bustle that frequents the main Storrs campus, tucked away only a few streets down the road, is Uconn's Depot Campus. This campus holds a handful of buildings that are almost completely abandoned and seem to have been forgotten by all, left to sit and collect a countless amount of dust, graffiti and overgrown vines. Maybe this is due to the creepy stories and heavy history surrounding the buildings. These buildings were once the home to Mansfield Training school where many were treated for mental illness, with a more "insane asylum" purpose. This school was later closed in 1993 for claims of abuse and inhumane treatment of patients.I was able to venture into one of these buildings and investigate it myself. This eerie location is slathered in graffiti and years of decay serving for an interesting set of photographs.

As much as I would like to encourage everyone to view these buildings for themselves, there are a few notes to keep in mind. When accessing these buildings, it is better to do so during the day to cut down on suspicion and increase visibility and maneuvering inside the buildings. Only enter the buildings without "Keep Out" signs and fences. If there are obvious signs you should stay out, there is probably a good reason. Also, try not to break any windows, doors or locks. Only enter open doors, otherwise you ARE breaking and entering. Keep these key points in mind, and I wish you happy adventuring!
