If there is one thing I know, it's movies. Some of my favorite movies have been independent films, and the film company A24 specializes in those. They have been behind some amazing new films such as Room, Spring Breakers, The Lobster, Ex Machina, American Honey, The Green Room, and my personal favorite: Swiss Army Man. In addition to all of those movies, they were behind Moonlight, which is now being called the best movie of 2016. While the company did not personally direct or create these movies, they decided to back them financially, which allowed them to be so successful. A24 has the ability to pick the best stories from a large selection of independent films and turn them into masterpieces with consistent critical success. Their movies do not only gain attention from critics, but they are even nominated for Oscars. Many of these movies touch on certain topics that are uncomfortable or awkward and make them beautiful. For example, Room is about a woman who is held against her will and forced to raise her child in a tiny room without any chance of escape. Room displays a depressing story about a ruined family and gives them a sliver of hope to leave. While not all of A24's movies are so disturbing and sad, they all seem to touch on such an integral part of our soul. These movies break societal norms and discuss what it truly means to be happy and human; that is why they are so successful.
Other than their success, the company's movies have some of the best soundtracks. They use songs from unknown artists and make them popular. The songs they choose are perfectly formulated to fit seamlessly into different scenes and to evoke emotion from the audience. No other film company has consistently produced such amazing films that truly leave a mark and provoke emotional discussions in my life. I have genuinely enjoyed every movie they were behind, and I will continue to enjoy their movies as more people discover them.
