With the doom and gloom surrounding COVID-19, we all think hope is lost and that the rise in cases is due to human irresponsibility (which isn't the case). A medical company called Moderna is developing a vaccine that will combat the virus. From what it looks like, the prototype vaccine had produced excellent results, with antibodies being produced in the participants in an initial safety trial. Though the results are promising, we have to remember one thing. It's not an end-all to be all.
What does that mean? It means that if this vaccine is approved and released to the public, it will NOT cure the virus nor eradicate it. What do I mean by that? I mean that if you get the vaccine, you will NOT be cured and it will NOT make COVID-19 disappear.
But if the vaccine won't make COVID-19 disappear, what will?
Here's the thing. There's a vaccine for the flu but you can still catch the flu. See where I'm coming from? There's an existing vaccine for sickness but you can still catch it. Yes, vaccines are essential to the treatment of illnesses but it will NOT fully protect you. Vaccines are the first step to protecting yourself from disease with other lifestyle choices you need to make.
If a vaccine won't fully protect me, then what should I do?
I'm going to write this right now, I'm Pro-Vaccination and they're crucial to the world of medicine but they can do but so much. After you receive a vaccine, you have to keep yourself healthy in order to prevent sickness. How do you do that? Exercise more often, eat better foods, and building up your immune system, it's not that difficult.
With the exception of Polio and Smallpox, diseases are unfortunately here to stay, with COVID-19 being no exception. We all want COVID-19 to be eradicated but it's here to stay. A vaccine will be very helpful in reducing the numbers but it won't eradicate the disease altogether. What will help is better eating habits and a more active lifestyle will keep your immune system at bay. Unless if your immunocompromised, taking care of yourself isn't a Herculean task, it's easy.
