An Open Thank You Letter To Art, For Inspiring All Of Us
Josie Messina

Dear Art,

Thank you.

Thank you for music, and painting, and drawing, and singing, and dancing, and instruments. Thank you for letting me, and so many others, create.

Thank you for passion. For livelihoods where people wake up every day and grow and learn and create and love. Thank you for letting people fall in love with you over and over again. Thank you for the opportunities to make art a successful job.

Thank you for expression. For not knowing how to say something, but feeling it deep within your bones. For putting it all out on a canvas or in a song. Thank you for inspiration. Thank you for giving us the inspiration to create.

Thank you for the ability to change lives. Thank you for changing mine. Thank you for giving me a talent I never knew I had. Thank you for helping us feel closer to people we've never met in person. For giving us role models.

Thank you for differences. For allowing everyone to take something exactly the same and do it in their own way. The same is boring. The same is outdated and will not provide growth for our society. Thank you for creativity. Thank you for giving us an outlet to be creative and share our art with the world.

Thank you for hope. For inspiring millions to do what they love. For changing lives. For changing mine. I cannot imagine where I would be if I had not discovered a passion for singing.

Thank you for failure. From our failures, we learn and we improve ourselves in ways we never thought imaginable. Thank you for giving us the strength to get up and try again. Thank you for letting us lean on other members of the community for support and strength.

Josie Messina

Thank you. For everything.

From,

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
