Type Sixes On The Enneagram Test Aren't Weak

We aren't as needy as the test makes it seem.

As someone who doesn't really believe or follow zodiac signs and their descriptions, I was skeptical about taking the Enneagram Test. After everyone started to post about it, though, I absolutely had to take it. I found out that I am a Type 6. In reading a little bit about my type, I realized that I totally identified with it! It wasn't until months after taking the test that I read the Enneagram Institute's full description of Type Sixes. Honestly, I'm disappointed in how negative the description was.

Every type description lists the "positive" and "negative" aspects of the type. Sixes are known as loyalists. They work hard and are dependable. They stand by their beliefs. They often get too into their heads by thinking and worrying too much. They long for support because being alone is their fear. They are smart, but have a difficult time trusting their instincts, so they cling to others for reinforcement.

Being a 6, I agree with these descriptions of Sixes and their experiences. However, I think a more positive light could have been used. Yes, Sixes fear to be alone and without support. We often like to consult others' opinions to help us make decisions, but that doesn't mean we can't think for ourselves. We deal with self-doubt, but doesn't everyone? We aren't loyal just because we long for support. Personally, I'm not going to have any unhealthy relationships just so that I can say and somewhat feel that I have support. I'm not going to be a fake friend to others just to say or feel that I have people to lean back on. I am friends with people because I genuinely enjoy their friendship. I stay loyal when I feel appreciated and loved and want someone else to feel the same way.

I write all of this to say that Type Sixes aren't weak. We are strong for being able to get through the day after worrying about several small things. We are loyal because we care. I'm not saying that Sixes are without flaws or better than other types. I just think that we deserve a little more recognition!

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
